Life with little ones is so hard! You barely have enough time to think about yourself, let alone plan a killer date night. Been there! But when is the last time you “dated” your spouse? I’m not talking a night on the town. Maybe it’s as simple as staying in and having a good cup of coffee while reliving the week together. The point is, even in this difficult and busy season of life, you can still make time for each other. I’d love to share some simple ways we’ve found to connect, even while still being at home!
Dinner And A Movie In
We love a good movie. We will often frequent Redbox multiple times during the weekend. We also love Netflix and Hulu for a good binge worthy show. Life In Pieces is on our watchlist right now. Why not pick up a good movie as well as your favorite take out? Super simple and easy, if you can get the kids to bed that is.
Game Night
We love games of all kinds. Some of the games we own are not age appropriate for the kids, as they’re a little too difficult. Find one of those games and make it a night of friendly competition. Or if you have a gaming system, play that too! A friendly wager doesn’t hurt either! Maybe the loser goes to get ice cream, or the winner gets out of their least favorite household chore for the week.
Get Outside
One of my favorite no cost dates last year was going to a local park to play Pickleball. If you’re not into sports, you could always go for a walk, or go on a hike. If you have a fire pit you could make it a s’mores date. We’re going to give letterboxing a try this month. Not sure what it is? See more details here.
Cook Together
Find a new recipe you can make together once the kids are in bed. Better yet, make it an Iron Chef challenge and create a few freezer meals you can use later on when the schedule gets busy. Not a good cook? Why not head to Costco or Trader Joe’s and pick up a few things you’ve always wanted to try. Since the kids won’t be there, you won’t have to worry about picky eaters.
Try Something New
Every Christmas we give each other 6 months worth of planned out date cards. That way we know we’re guaranteed one date a month. He takes the even months (when my birthday is), and I take the odd months (when his birthday is). We always try to think of something fun and new we’ve never done before, with a few of the familiar favorites sprinkled in. A few great resources for finding unique date night ideas are The Dating Divas, and Happlily (formerly DateBox). Pinterest is another great place to search!
