What To Wear On School Picture Day

School has started, fall creeps up, and before you know it, school picture day has arrived! But you completely forgot and now you’re scrambling for something to wear so your kiddo looks half decent for their school photo. Never fear! I have some thoughts for you on how you can help your student look their best on picture day, even if you are only remembering it the night before.

Best Clothing Options

Do not feel like you have to go out and by a brand new outfit for picture day, simply shop your child’s closet. Look for dresses or tops that compliment your child’s eye color or have fun detail around the collar. Keep style choices simple and classic. Current trends don’t always stand the test of time. And make sure your child feels comfortable in what they’re wearing! If you’re not sure how they will react to what you choose, have them wear it around the house for an hour and see how they feel.

Things To Avoid

Oh, boy! I feel like I could write a whole book on what to avoid, but let me keep it simple for you. Items to avoid on school picture day include:

  • Neon colors
  • Hoodies
  • Large logos
  • Accessories that are overlarge and overpowering
  • The colors brown and orange
  • Tops that are similar color as the backdrop

What about teachers or staff?

If you’re a teacher getting your picture taken on school picture day, you may be wondering the same question. I’d stick to the same principles as the kids. Stick with tops in earth tone colors that make your eyes pop and avoid busy patterns. If you enjoy accessories and jewelry, stick to one statement piece, either earrings or necklace, and keep the rest subtle. Make sure your hair and makeup look natural.

Whatever you and your child choose for picture day it’s going to be special! I can’t wait to photograph your student and showcase them just as they are!
